Grab Your Walking Stick and Enjoy the First Day of Spring

Posted on

Today is the first day of spring, which means you can officially leave the winter doldrums behind and look forward to months of warm and pleasant weather. The nice weather means you can pack away your winter coat, scarves and other cold weather gear and get out of the house and have some fun in the sun.

But just where are you going to go and what are you going to do? Now that spring is here, there are plenty of ways you can celebrate the equinox. Here are a few ways you can get out and celebrate spring.

Take a Walk with Vivaldi

The first way to celebrate spring is with music. Antonio Vivaldi’s Four Seasons is a wonderful way to welcome the warmer temperatures and it is one of the most recognized classical music in the world.

Grab your walking stick, put in your earbuds and take a long stroll while listening to The Four Seasons.

Splash in a Puddle

When was the last time you jumped in a puddle? Over the winter, you did your best to avoid puddles and the last thing you wanted is to have to suffer through wet shoes and socks in cold temperatures.

But now that spring is here, those puddles you would avoid are a lot less threatening. In fact, jumping in one of them right now sounds like a lot of fun. What have you got to lose? There is just something about splashing around in a puddle that frees the spirit.

Just make sure you wear shoes that are washable.

Go Out For Spring Rolls

Celebrate spring by eating foods that are spring-like. Perhaps you have had spring rolls before or maybe this will be your first time. Spring rolls are a large variety of filled, rolled appetizers found in Asian cuisine.

Spring Cleaning

We aren’t talking about cleaning your house, what a terrible way to spend the first day of spring. Besides, your house isn't the only thing that needs to be cleaned, your bird feeders and bird bath need attention as well.

Spring is migration season for many species of birds, so they will be making their way back to your yard. Greet them by spending the first day of spring cleaning out the bird baths and bird feeders you have in your yard. Ensure they are in top condition upon their arrival.

Plant a Garden

The first step in having a garden full of fabulous and tasty vegetables is planting the seeds. One of the fun aspects of spring is that it is the beginning of the growing season. If you don’t want vegetables, maybe you could plant some flower seeds.

Eat Ice Cream While Making a List

Go sit on your front porch or back patio or deck with some ice cream and make a list of what you want to do this summer. Your list can contain summer destinations or adventures, projects you want to complete or you could plan your vacation.

Whatever you plan on doing on the first day of spring, make sure you get outside for at least a bit.
